Attraction & event parking in Bolton
Crompton Place Shopping Centre
At the heart of modern Bolton is Crompton Place Shopping Centre, where more than 40 retail outlets include big names as well as some independent shops. It was completely redeveloped in the 1980s and is a great place to spend an afternoon, leaving your car nearby at the NCP’s Bolton All Saints Street East.
Jumbles Country Park
Set in the West Pennine Moors, Jumbles Country Park has a popular footpath that skirts the edges of Jumbles Reservoir and has a café and visitor centre. After a morning of sightseeing or shopping, try parking in the NCP’s Bolton All Saints Street East car park and getting some fresh air and exercise here. The park is just north of the city centre, and you can continue the reservoir walk to nearby Wayoh Nature Reserve if you’re in the mood.
Bolton Market
Bolton has had a long history as a thriving market town, and people flock here from the surrounding region on market days still. The annual Food and Drink Festival is staged here, a showcase for speciality food and drinks, and there’s an Artisan Market every month. Just drop the car off at the NCP’s Bolton Blackhorse Street car park and enjoy market day with the rest of the crowd.
Bolton Museum Aquarium and Archive
For a great day out with the kids, drop into Bolton Museum Aquarium and Archive. It was opened back in 1941 and is the only aquarium of its kind in the Greater Manchester area. Park nearby at the NCP’s Bolton King Street car park.
Octagon Theatre
The Octagon is one of the UK’s most prestigious theatrical venues, staging regular runs of top quality productions. First opened in 1967, its unusual design is based on a huge hexagonal drum with a lattice steel roof. As well as being a successful commercial theatre, important community work is carried out here and if you park at the NCP’s Bolton Octagon Theatre SP car park you can pop along and see what’s currently happening.
Smithills Hall
This is a magnificent Grade I Listed manor house, one of the best preserved in the North West. It started out as a medieval hall but has later Tudor and Victorian wings, and a private chapel that was restored in 1592. Bolton Council now owns and runs it and you can take a free guided tour. Park at the NCP’s Bolton St Georges Road car park and enjoy a trip back in time at this unique glimpse into Old England.
Bolton Steam Museum
First opened to the public in 2006, Bolton Steam Museum was constructed over two decades on the site of the original Atlas Mill, as part of the living industrial heritage of the area. During the Industrial Revolution, the textile mills that brought wealth to the region were driven by stationary steam engines, 27 of which are on display right here. Drop your car off at the NCP’s Bolton Back Cheapside 2 car park close by.
