Epsom is best known today as the home of Epsom Downs Racecourse and has horse racing in its very bones. The town itself has been around since at least 1086, when it gets a mention in the Domesday Book. During Georgian times it was a leading spa town, attracting royalty and aristocrats from far afield who arrived in droves to take the ‘cure’. Rich in Epsom Salts or Magnesium Sulphate, the waters have been attracting the rich and famous since the early 17^th century and continue to do so today.
